The Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area is the 18,000-acre regional park of the East Bay Regional Park District. It is situated in the county of Contra Costa, the East Bay region of southern California. Rock recreation area situated in a picturesque canyon along the Pine Creek. The region is dominated by oak woodlands and prominent formations of sandstone. Castle Rock has historically specialized in preparing picnic events for big groups of 300 or more individuals, but in 2007 the East Bay Regional Park District began renovating the park for both drop-in and picnic use. The Diablo Foothills Regional Park and Castle Rock Park, bordered by Mt. Diablo State Park and Walnut Creek Open Space, provide access to over 18,000 acres of government property. Basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, softball field, and picnic sites are now accessible to everyday audiences. There are four locations with 100 and 3 capability that can be reserved with 50 capacity and can be reserved by calling the 888 number. On a first-come, first-serve basis, other picnic sites are accessible. The swimming pool complex has 30 feet by 70 feet of swimming pool and deck areas. The complex is also fully available to individuals with disabilities, including the bathhouse and an affordable pool lift. Swimming is allowed only if lifeguards are in obligation.
