Broadway Plaza Shopping Center

1275 Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek, CA 94596

Broadway Plaza is an outdoor shopping mall in downtown Walnut Creek. Macerich launched and owned and operated the shopping center on October 11, 1951. The mall is anchored by Nordstrom, Macy's and Neiman Marcus. The square features a combination of stores and restaurants including PF China Bistro, Tesla Motors, Athleta, Kate Spade New York. Chang, and books from Amazon. On October 18, 1951, Broadway Plaza opened with 38 shops. JCPenney, Sears, Woolworths, Joseph Magnin (later I. Magnin), and a Lucky Supermarket were the mall's initial anchors. Capwell's Oakland-based department store opened in 1954 as the center's fifth anchor.  In 1973, Lucky was substituted by Northern California's Bullock's second department store, which was transformed to Nordstrom in 1984. Capwell's in 1979 and Macy's in 1995 were transformed to Emporium-Capwell; while I. Magnin was transformed to a distinct Macy's Men's shop that same year. As the beginning of several significant shopping center modifications, Neiman Marcus entered Broadway Plaza in March 2012. Plans for comprehensive mall renovations, including the addition of 300,000 sq ft (28,000 m2) of fresh retail space, were approved in December 2013. The development combined Macy's two shops into an extended single building, substituted current parking garages with contemporary buildings, and added a new two-level retail building between Macy's and Nordstrom's current shops. The first stores in the development opened in September 2016, while the Christmas shopping season saw the opening of extra shops and a two-level Zara store in place of the former Macy's Men's shop. Building started to replace two multi-tenant houses with an Apple landmark in early 2017. If you're in the region and want to visit interesting places, Broadway Plaza is a must stop. Downtown Walnut Creek is a historic site, and being at the core of the Broadway Plaza Shopping Center provides it more reason to visit.
