Bedford Gallery at the Lesher Center for the Arts

1601 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek, CA 94596

Bedford Gallery at the City of Walnut Creek presents the work of historical, modern, and contemporary artists. The Gallery is devoted to offering the public with possibilities to learn about visual arts through diverse, affordable, challenging and educational government programs. Its task is to deliver exhibitions and other programs that represent and engage the entire Contra Costa region's varied audiences. The Gallery organizes and presents four to five exhibitions each year. We also give lectures, workshops, panel discussions and other kinds of government programs sometimes. Besides tours for seniors and adult organizations, gallery educators offer each year tour that include hands-on art projects to more than 3,500 college kids. Most of our school tours are provided at no price to the students as we give free classroom tours in Contra Costa county as well as bus scholarships. The roughly sixty volunteer members of the Bedford Gallery Docent Council receive professional training in art history as well as teaching methods. A volunteer group of about 50 employees, the Bedford Gallery Guild offers daily reception employees, hosts receptions and other unique activities, and generates annual fundraising activities. Bedford Gallery is the largest visual arts facility in the community between the Bay Area and Sacramento with an exhibition space of 3,500 square feet. This contemporary art space is located in the City of Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts, which contains three cinemas as well as our fundraising partner for the Diablo Regional Arts Association (DRAA). As the non-profit partner for the Lesher Center for the Arts, DRAA's mission is to invest in artistic excellence and create opportunities for all to experience the drama, pageantry and excitement of the arts. Originally established as the Civic Arts Gallery in 1968, the Gallery was renamed for the generous donation of Peter and Kirsten Bedford to the Center's campaign. The Bedford Gallery is component of Walnut Creek City's Arts + Rec Department.
