Cosmetic Dentistry

Many Patients Are Dissatisfied With Their Natural Smiles, Or Those Smiles Have Deteriorated Through The Years Due To Wear And Tear Or The Aging Process. Fortunately, If You Feel Like You Have A Lackluster Smile, Cosmetic Dentistry Can Address Your Concerns.

This dental specialty, which focuses on enhancing the smile’s appearance rather than restoring health to the teeth and gums, can draw on several interventions to fix defects that cause your smile to deviate from the characteristics that make a smile beautiful.

When seeking cosmetic dentistry services, it’s important to work with a provider who takes a holistic approach to improving your smile. At Kwon and Jabbour, we consider all of the elements that contribute to a beautiful smile when making treatment recommendations.

The Components of A Gorgeous Smile

What makes a smile attractive anyway? It consists of teeth that are white and bright, in good condition and proportionate in size to each other. Furthermore, the gums and teeth are also in proper proportions (e.g. no excess of gum tissue, and adequate tooth material is visible).

The contour of an appealing smile is also pleasant and coherent, and it fits well within the surrounding facial structures.

If your smile falls short in any of these areas, cosmetic dentistry interventions can help you become more satisfied with your smile.

Our Comprehensive Approach to Cosmetic Dentistry

Your path to a more beautiful smile begins with our comprehensive evaluation that considers the role of your smile in the broader context of other facial structures. We may use photographs, intraoral scans, facial scans and other imaging tools to assess for imbalances in the smile.

In particular, we are evaluating the following factors to determine which interventions will help you to achieve your smile goals:

  • Shade of the teeth: Are the teeth a beautiful shade of white with no stains or discolorations?
  • Condition of the teeth: Are the teeth intact and free from chips or cracks?
  • Proportions of the teeth to each other: Are the teeth the correct sizes or are there undersized teeth?
  • Proportions of the teeth to the gums: Is adequate tooth material visible or is it obscured by excess gum tissue?
  • Alignment of the teeth: Are the teeth in the correct positions so that there are no gaps or overlapping teeth?
  • Alignment of the jaw/bite: Do the jaws fit together properly, without an open bite, underbite, overbite or other jaw issues.

Based on this assessment, we can then recommend treatments that will help to address any aesthetic deficits identified. We will customize the intervention to blend in with your natural smile so that it’s impossible to detect which tooth has been treated and which one is natural.

Common Cosmetic Dentistry Interventions

Cosmetic dentistry encompasses a number of treatments, and depending on your needs, any of the following may be recommended for you.

DENTAL BONDING

A small amount of tooth-colored composite material is applied to a tooth to hide minor defects, such as small areas of damage to a tooth.

BIOCLEAR MATRIX

This innovative approach to filling in a “black triangle” gap, typically between the two front teeth on the upper arch, offers an enduring solution.

DENTAL VENEERS

Tooth-shaped shells bonded on top of your natural teeth are versatile enough to address varying situations such as chips, cracks, stains, minor alignment issues and undersized teeth.

TEETH WHITENING

We offer teeth whitening for every budget and lifestyle!

  • Opalescence Go™: Disposable and cost effective solution
  • Custom Tray Whitening
  • Opalescence™ Boost™: In-office touch up whitening
  • KöR Whitening: Combination home and in-office for extreme whitening

Clear Aligner Therapy

Our teeth can mean the difference between bubbling with self-confidence or feeling embarrassed and insecure. In the past, beautifully straight teeth could only be achieved through years of uncomfortable, unattractive metal braces. Fortunately, that is a thing of the past for many orthodontic candidates.

We offer patients the opportunity to have the stunningly perfect smile they deserve without the bulk and discomfort of traditional braces. To be a certified Invisalign provider a dentist must go through extensive training, which both Drs. Kwon and Jabbour have done.

Keep in mind that some patients can get the results they desire from a single treatment, while others may need multiple interventions to attain their treatment goals. Additionally, for certain conditions, we may need to collaborate with other specialists, such as oral surgeons, periodontists or orthodontists.

Our practice relies on the most advanced technology available to make your treatment process as effective and efficient as possible. We use both two-dimensional and three-dimensional smile design tools to predict the outcomes of our interventions and deliver those interventions.

Common Cosmetic Dentistry Questions

Cosmetic dentistry is a dental specialty that primarily focuses on improving the smile’s appearance. It can address defects with the shade, condition, shape or alignment of the teeth, along with other issues that can prevent a smile from looking its best.

The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to enhance and transform an ordinary smile into a beautiful one that you will be proud to show off. Every smile is different, and to determine what can be enhanced is the first step in Smile design. A Smile Design is the blueprint of your mouth.

Our Smile Design consultations include photographs, models, bite records and measurements. To achieve ideal facial harmony we take into account:

  • How much of your teeth are visible in your smile
  • Where is the gum line in your smile and how much of it is visible when you smile?
  • Do your teeth follow the contour of your lip?
  • Is the size of each tooth in correct proportion to your face?
  • Do you have dental restorations that are chipped, stained, or unaesthetic?
  • Is the color of your teeth harmonious?
  • Are there missing teeth? Worn teeth? Crowded teeth? Gaps between teeth?
A veneer is cosmetic dentistry’s equivalent of a multi-use tool. These devices are thin, tooth-shaped shells that can conceal different flaws in your teeth. We use the Minimal Prep technique so that our patients can get their veneers in a single day rather than wait for a few weeks for their beautiful new smile.
Having sensitive teeth doesn’t rule you out as a candidate for teeth whitening. However, because tooth sensitivity can be a side effect of teeth whitening, we will tailor our approach to minimize this concern if you are already predisposed to having sensitive teeth, such as recommending that you start using a specially formulated toothpaste to reduce tooth sensitivity.
Different treatment options may help you improve the appearance of a stained or discolored tooth. The bleaching agents used in teeth whitening treatment may have the desired effect of releasing the stain. Some deeper or older stains may not respond to teeth whitening, however. In these cases, a veneer can help you cover up the discoloration with an appearance similar to natural tooth enamel.
